"Elections" Articles

  • Obama Popularizes Himself among Youth through E-Marketing - If Barack Obama becomes the next President of the United States of America, the country can assure that they will not fall short on one account, e-marketing. Demagogic run by Obama among the youth in the ongoing Democratic presidential primaries have stunned analysts and psephologists alike.
  • Grassroots and the Elections - Believe it or not, there's an election around the corner. No, I'm not talking about the Presidential campaign. I'm talking about November 6th, 2007 when communities all across the country will be deciding on local ballot measures, county commissioners, city councilors and the like. OK, so maybe the thought of these local elections doesn't fill you with the same level of anticipation (or dread) as a rip-roaring presidential campaign can. But whether you're considering getting involved in the local 2007 elections, or gearing up for 2008, there are a dozen effective and fun ways to involve grassroots network members in the political process. In doing so, you'll build both recognition of your cause as well as a pool of motivated and knowledgeable activists.
  • Fun Party Planning Ideas: 4 Fabulous and Unique Party Activity Tips - There are SO many details to think about when organizing and planning a party. You've got to create the guest list, send out the Save the Dates and invitations, find a great venue for the party, choose a fabulous caterer and maybe even an awesome band. That's the easy part.
  • The 2006 Elections - What does it mean to the Christian - As always right after any election the phrase "the American people have spoken" is being resounded profusely. Given that only forty percent of Americans have voted and of those the disenthralled, the unlearned and the well coaxed make up a goodly percentage of the voters, some are more willing to say "the American people have regurgitated." Majority rule has never proved itself to be infallible.
  • This is not your dad's Republican Party anymore - Stock markets are strange because they reflect the sum total of all our hopes, fears and prejudices at the end of each day. Every so often something big comes along that can have very strong influence on the stock market, and the direction the market is going to take. Bear markets when they do come, come out of nowhere. Everybody is surprised by them, but once they happen, the pundits have what seem to be perfectly reasonable explanations for why they happen.
  • Countdown to 2007: The Search for the Right Deputy in Sierra Leone - In his state opening of parliament a few months ago, President Kabbah has virtually said good-bye to the nation, opening the doors for speculation as to who will succeed him. Is it his Vice President Solomon Berewa? Is it the APC's Ernest Koroma? Is it the breakaway PMDC's Charles Margai? Or is someone else yet to win the hearts and minds of Sierra Leoneans? While that still remains a subject of anticipation, the most pressing thing for the major political parties at the moment is the choice of a deputy or running-mate to the various contestants. And that choice is as crucial as the presidential elections themselves. If it is done correctly, it could yield great results; if it's done incorrectly, it could be costly to bear.
  • Have We Issued One Blank Check To Many! - With Mid Term elections just around the corner maybe it's time for us to start taking a harder look at what has happened to "OUR" civil liberties.
  • Joe Arpaio For President - Unless you live in Arizona there is a good chance you have never heard of Joe. He is a sheriff in Arizona. He was recently re-elected to his position in Maricopa County. Why do I think he should be President? Because he is actually trying to make a difference. He doesn't care if he is pleasing everybody, he is trying to please the good citizens of his county and punish the bad ones. Joe is not your typical politician.
  • Local Government Politics - Rules of Combat - If you expect to be effective in local politics, you have to know the rules and procedures. If you expect to be taken seriously on issues, you can't afford to lose credibility by not knowing the rules and procedures. A good opponent will know all this information. Don't let them outmaneuver you on procedure because you didn't know the rules of combat. Controversial issues will no doubt have multiple steps that must be followed. Sometimes there will be formal Public Hearings;
  • Local Government Politics - How to be Effective? - So, you have an issue with your local government. How can you most effectively convey your message? Without being able to effectively convey your message not just to the governing body, but your fellow citizens, your job of swaying public opinion and votes your way, is difficult. You need to organize your points. You need to start by deciding what is the one BIG reason for you supporting or opposing an issue. One BIG reason is better than a multitude of small reasons. It is the old KISS theory. Keep it Simple Stupid.
  • Government Apathy - A Different View - I have always believed that political apathy starts at the bottom. That is the citizens. They do not go to meetings when issues are being discussed that impact their lives. They do not speak up at the earlyist opportunity to provide input. I recently came across an article that challenges my theory. It was written by someone who just refers to himself as Dan. No last name. It was written in 2002. Dan lives in Britain, but what he says could also refer to the United States. Dan believes that apathy comes from the top down. Not the bottom up.
  • Local Government Apathy - An International Problem - Local government apathy is not just a problem in the USA. It is an international problem. A Google of "local political apathy" proves that very quickly. The problem has also been with us for some time. In 1987 Mayor Ken Livingstone of London wrote a book, "If Voting Changed Anything, They'D Abolish It." Since 2004 something called The Power inquiry has been investigating the condition of democracy in Britain. This group hosted meetings and heard from a variety of interest groups over the past two years. This investigation attempted to answer the questions: * How can democracy survive when we feel politicians don't listen? * How can politics be revived when fewer and fewer of us support political parties?
